The Cobb Pizza Stone is made from Cordierite, a mineral which contains magnesium and iron and is used in ceramic bakeware because of its ability to withstand extreme temperatures. It is more resistant to thermal shock - moving from low temperatures to very high temperatures - than other ceramic stones.
The cordierite material is slighty porous which helps promote a crispy base, the hallmark of a great pizza.
